Workers’ Memorial Day and World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2024
Each year Workers’ Memorial Day and World Day for Safety and Health at Work are commemorated on 28 April. The day pays tribute to those who have lost their lives as a result of work-related incidents and disease.
In 2023, 31 workers lost their lives in the Australian building and construction industry. The Office of the Federal Safety Commissioner (OFSC) acknowledges that any number of lives lost is unacceptable and is committed to improving work health and safety outcomes on building worksites to ensure all workers go home safely at the end of each day. The OFSC does this by administering the WHS Accreditation Scheme, promoting the benefits of the Scheme and promoting WHS in relation to building work.
The key to driving better safety outcomes in the building industry is for companies to be proactive and manage known risks. To support industry the OFSC has developed a range of resources. Check out our Education and Resources section here for more information.
