The WestConnex M4-M5 Link Tunnels is a joint venture project between Bouygues Construction Australia, Acciona Infrastructure Projects Australia and Samsung C&T Corporation. The M4-M5 Link Tunnels will be 7.5 kilometres long and accommodate up to four lanes of traffic in each direction.

Senior managers are leading the project’s focus on zero harm, emphasising the importance of visible leadership through weekly safety walks on-site. A number of innovative practices and technologies are utilised on the project, including the Blaxtair Detection Proximity System and a Virtual Superintendent Safety Initiative using geospatial technology to monitor traffic and weather hazards.

The Federal Safety Commissioner David Denney said that “It is great to see accredited companies continuously striving for a better safety culture by engaging an entire work-site in their push for innovation. As a result, their work sites are safer and other companies can benefit from their examples of technical innovation and best safety practice.

I am pleased to hear the WHS Accreditation Scheme has successfully driven the repeatability and standardisation of good safety practices on this project”.
