FSC Industry Reference Group - COVID-19 Response

The Federal Safety Commissioner’s Industry Reference Group (IRG) held a special meeting late last month to exchange information and experience in managing COVID-19 in the building and construction industry.

As a result of this meeting, the OFSC has compiled a summary of the practical measures being used by IRG members onsite to minimise the risks associated with COVID-19 while allowing sites to remain operational. Implemented control measures range from site access and preventative strategies through to management of a COVID-19 case and the mental health of workers during this period of isolation.

This information complements guidance and advice available from Federal, State and Territory Health Departments, Safe Work authorities and construction industry groups.

Federal Safety Commissioner, David Denney has said, “The construction industry’s approach to COVID-19 needs to be dynamic and responsible. I’m encouraged to see the in-depth and proactive measures being taken by the Scheme Accredited builders on our IRG. Sharing practical response measures will help ensure the safety of essential workers during these challenging times.”

Information on temporary operational changes for the Work Health and Safety Accreditation Scheme during the COVID-19 situation have been previously announced. The OFSC is assessing the impacts of COVID-19 on its operations on a daily basis and will provide updates as changes to the way we work are required.
